Sitalyzer: Features
Overview
Sitalyzer checks your website and your Critical Pages, as often as
once a minute, and as infrequently as once a week depending on your
needs and setting. In case of a problem, the Alert Manager will send
a message according to your preferences.
Protocols
Sitalyzer 's Data Collector automatically sends a HTTP request onto
the Critical Pages you specified during the setup. (Up to 5 pages
allowed at no extra cost)
In return, Sitalyzer receives a response time, a Return Code and a
Status Code if your site was accessible, or a connection error if it
is down.
The GUI (User Interface) if running will display this data, and the
Alert Manager will be invoked in case of problem.
Sitalyzer will re-execute the same commands as often as once a
minute, according to your preferences.
Sitalyzer supports Both HTTP
and HTTPS
(non-secured and secured
websites) protocols, at no extra charge.
Alert Manager
The Alert Manager is invoked by Sitalyzer when a connection error
occurs, or when a bad return code is received after a page check is
performed. An alert message can be sent to multiple recipients
according to your preferences.
Action Manager
The Action Manager is invoked, if set up in the domain profile, by Sitalyzer when a connection error
occurs, or when a bad return code is received after a check on
your Home Page is performed. The following actions are then taken:
-
Override of the
frequency used to check your website to 1 minute.
-
It will then re-check
your Home Page every minute for as long as defined in the profile,
to avoid taking any unnecessary action.
-
Once determined that
your Home Page cannot be reached, a 1st action is taken.
-
A second action may be
taken after a pre-determined delay if required.
The Action Manager
allows almost any type of action, from the launch of a program, to
the execution of a command or set of commands, or even an Internet
command. Additional services may be required depending on the type
of action you wish to perform. For example, restarting a remote web
server would require a remote access program. The ability to take 2 specific and different actions with a
delay in between them allow the Action Manager to automatically deal
with most if not all configurations.
For example, with the appropriate commands supplied in the domain
profile, the Action Manager could stop and then restart a web
server, remotely stop and restart a server, or dynamically reroute
all traffic to a backup website and then reroute back to the
original site once the problem is fixed.
Logging - History
Every time Sitalyzer monitors a domain and its critical pages, a
record is logged in a file (CSV format) for later analysis or as
input to an Excel spreadsheet. Each record contains. among other
data, the URL checked, its status, when it was checked, and what was
its response time.
For ease of use, a new file is automatically created every day.
Traceroute
The Traceroute feature included in Sitalyzer is a very useful
diagnostic tool. A traceroute will trace step by step the route it
takes you to reach your website, and will tell you the time it took
between each "hop".
So why is this so important? Because it will provide additional
information in case of problem, such as where a slowdown occurs, or
if a connection is interrupted, where.
Website Maintenance
When you are maintaining or updating your website, there is usually
no need to monitor it, unless you want Sitalyzer to continue sending
you alert messages during your maintenance window.
The automatic checking of your critical pages can be temporary
paused with just a right-click and restarted the same way. Simple
and practical, the command is processed instantaneously.
